More than 30 scholars from renowned universities and research institutions in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao attended the opening ceremony, including Ye Jinbao, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Social Science Association; Professor Yang Zhongmin, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of our university; Professor Zhao Xifang, Researcher at the Institute of Literature, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Professor Cheng Jincheng from Lanzhou University; Professor Wu Jun from Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Professor Tan Guilin from Hunan University; Professor Shao Ningning from Hangzhou Normal University; Professor Huang Wanhua from Shandong University; Professor Yuan Yonglin from Fujian Normal University; and Professor Duan Jifang, Dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature of our university. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Hongbao, Director of the Social Science Department of our university.

At the opening ceremony, Yang Zhongmin of our university briefly introduced the basic situation of humanities and social sciences research at South China Normal University and the achievements of the School of Chinese Language and Literature in discipline construction, education and teaching, and scientific research. He pointed out that the project "Compilation and Research of Hong Kong Contemporary Newspaper Literary Supplements," chaired by Professor Ling Yu, holds significant theoretical and practical value in reflecting the ideological spirit of Hong Kong people and inheriting Chinese culture. Ye Jinbao, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Social Science Association, also affirmed the project's great theoretical and practical significance in building cultural confidence and identity, further leveraging the historical advantages of Hong Kong's literary and artistic scene, promoting exchanges and mutual learning among world civilizations, enhancing the influence and reach of Hong Kong's literary and artistic endeavors, and advancing the cultural development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

During the opening report session, Professor Ling Yu, the chief expert, delivered a report covering five aspects: research approach, literature review, research content, research objectives and significance, and research methods. She emphasized that delving into historical materials can expand new discursive spaces, break through temporal and spatial barriers, and construct a multi-dimensional subject of Hong Kong literature. The project prioritizes compilation, driving in-depth research through the collection and organization of materials, and strives to achieve synergy between the mainland and Hong Kong, as well as connectivity among global Chinese cultures, within an interwoven temporal and spatial context. Five sub-project leaders—Professor Zhu Shoutong from the University of Macau, Professor Huang Weiliang and Professor He Xingfeng from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Associate Professor Hou Guixin from our university, and Professor Long Qilin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University—provided supplementary reports on their respective task divisions, key research content, and major issues to be addressed. Finally, under the moderation of Professor Zhao Xifang, Professors Cheng Jincheng, Wu Jun, Tan Guilin, Shao Ningning, Huang Wanhua, and Yuan Yonglin offered insightful guidance and precise suggestions for the project.

At the academic seminar, Professor Zhao Xifang fully affirmed the project's significance, highlighting its unique literary and philological value. Yang Jilan, Editor of the "Selected Taiwanese and Hong Kong Literature" journal, metaphorically summarized the process of compiling and researching literary supplements as one of "addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division," vividly capturing the synthesis, selection, and refinement involved. Experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao freely expressed their views, providing further guidance and suggestions for the project's development. Wei Ming, Deputy Director and Senior Research Fellow of the Jao Tsung-I Academy at The University of Hong Kong, emphasized the need to pay attention to "non-mainstream" works and authors. Professor Long Qilin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University proposed further research ideas for the sub-projects, focusing on the relationship between media and literature. Associate Professor Li Minggang from Guangzhou Sport University deepened the discussion by combining preliminary research on publications with topics such as the new context of literature, issues of national character education, and historical figures in newspapers and periodicals. Associate Professor Cheng Guiting from Shantou University raised boundaries that need to be considered in Hong Kong newspaper research. Lecturer Xue Ping from the Pearl River College of South China Agricultural University pointed out the significant impact of changes in media since the new century on literary supplements. Additionally, young scholars such as Zhang Zhiguo, Ye Jiayong, Qiu Tingjie, Xu Shiying, Zhang Yu, Zhang Heng, Luo Jiangyu, and Wang Anqi engaged in thorough discussions on the research status of the various sub-projects.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Professor Zhao Xifang, in his summary, once again affirmed the importance of research on Hong Kong newspaper literary supplements and emphasized the integration and interaction between sub-project research and thematic research. He provided further suggestions and guidance for the project, marking the successful conclusion of the conference.
