Editor-in-Chief Introduction
Professor Ling Yu
Ling Yu is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Chinese Language and Literature, South China Normal University. She holds a postdoctoral fellowship from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and World Literature from Sun Yat-sen University. She has been a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and Peking University. She serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for World Chinese Literature, a council member of the Narratology Branch of the Chinese Society for Literary Theory and Foreign Literature, Vice President of the Guangdong Modern Writers Research Association, Vice President of the Guangdong Writing Society, Executive Director of the World Association for Chinese Literature, and Director of the Cross-Border Cultural Research Center for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Her main research areas include modern and contemporary Chinese literature, comparative literature and world literature, world Chinese literature, cross-media creative writing, and interdisciplinary cultural studies. She has led one major project of the National Social Science Fund, one key project of the National Social Science Fund, and one later-stage funded project of the National Social Science Fund. She has served as the sub-project leader for two major projects of the National Social Science Fund. Additionally, she has overseen numerous provincial and university-level research and teaching projects. Her publications include Cross-Media Narrative, The Cross-media Culture in Hong Kong, Crossover Creativity, Convergent Media: Cross-Media Literary Communication in the Cyber Era, Research Library of Global Chinese Literature, Contemporary Chinese Literary Trends (1978–2020), Cross-Media: Selected Readings of Hong Kong and Taiwan Narrative Works, Cross-Border Creative Writing Tutorial, and Cross-Border Creative Interviews. She has also edited the Cross-Border Creative Writing Series for Primary and Secondary Schools and Marching Across Borders on the Stormy Seas—The Biography of Fadjar Suhendra from the "Biographies of Overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia" series.
She has published over a hundred academic papers in important domestic and international academic journals, including 52 CSSCI-indexed papers, four English-language papers, one of which is indexed in both SSCI and A&HCI, and six papers reprinted in Xinhua Digest, Renmin University Copy Materials, China Literature Yearbook, and Academic Digest of Higher Education Institutions.
She has taught a variety of required, elective, and general education courses for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, including Modern Chinese Literature, Modern Paradigms of Literary Criticism, Research Methods in Language and Literature: New Perspectives in Literary Criticism, Studies on Taiwanese, Hong Kong, and Macanese Literature, Feminism and Literary Arts, Postmodern Narratology, Cross-Media Narrative Studies, Cross-Border Creative Culture Studies, Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies, and Cross-Border Creative Writing in the AI Era. Her awards include the Second and Third Prizes for Outstanding Achievements in the Seventh Guangdong Philosophy and Social Sciences Awards, the Fifteenth Outstanding Achievement Award in Contemporary Chinese Literature Research, the First Prize for Outstanding Achievements from the Guangdong Writing Society (2018–2023), the First Prize for Teaching Achievements from the Guangdong Writing Society, the First and Second Prizes in the Guangdong Social Sciences Academic Annual Conference, and the First and Second Prizes for Teaching Achievements from South China Normal University. She has participated in over 80 international academic conferences and delivered keynote speeches, provided academic summaries, chaired sessions, or served as a commentator on more than 20 occasions.
