Title: Artistic Resources in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract: The widespread application of artificial intelligence is transforming the mode of existence of art. Its impact is not limited to revolutionizing creative tools and renewing forms of expression, but is also evident in facilitating a structural shift in artistic resources. Before AI intervened in content production, artistic resources were typically understood as the material materials, cultural traditions, or accumulated experiences that serve as the conditions for creation, sometimes also referred to as an “artistic treasury” available for deployment. In the age of AI, elements such as computing power, algorithms, data, and models have gradually become artistic production factors, and artistic resources have consequently been transformed into a dynamic system that can be computed, generated, and redistributed. Against this backdrop, three notable cross-boundary changes have emerged in the art world: first, certain non-artistic elements become aestheticized through AI intervention, acquiring value as artistic resources; second, traditional artworks are incorporated into data structures and transformed into trainable, renewable resource forms; third, the value realization process of artistic resources is increasingly influenced by algorithms and platforms. Moreover, AI reconstructs artistic resources across three dimensions—material, spiritual, and medial—thereby renewing traditional conceptions of art, expanding the possibilities for artistic development, and promoting artistic transformation in tandem with high and new technologies. The boundaries between creative materials, distribution materials, and appreciation materials have been significantly weakened, forming a mutually coupled resource cycle of artistic production, circulation, and consumption. A systematic examination of artistic resources in the age of AI not only helps reveal the deep mechanisms of the integration of art and technology, but also contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the cross-boundary mode of existence and evolutionary trends of contemporary art.
